Vérification sommaire (daily)
The vérification sommaire is a driver-performed daily inspection required by Transport Canada / SAAQ regulations for paid transport. Uber's in-app inspection quotidienne satisfies this requirement — it's the same 12-point walk-around.
You are legally required to do it before your first ride of the day. In practice, Uber and Lyft prompt you and log the timestamp.
Vérification mécanique (annual)
The vérification mécanique is a full inspection at an SAAQ-mandated garage (mandataire). It covers brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, undercarriage — 200+ points. For paid ride vehicles it must be done every 12 months (vs every 24 months for personal cars over 8 years old).
Cost: around $110. You get a green sticker for the windshield and a PDF certificate you upload to Uber, Lyft or your taxi coop.
What happens if you miss one
- Missed daily sommaire: no direct fine, but if a passenger reports an issue, Uber can retro-pause your account
- Expired mécanique sticker: automatic Uber pause + SAAQ fine ($350–$1,050) if pulled over
- Failed mécanique: 10 working days to repair and re-inspect, otherwise the plate can be seized
